Holiday Inn Trinidad Review | Best Hotels in Trinidad Colorado
Driving through southern Colorado on a recent road trip, I needed a comfortable place to stop for the night.
After some quick research, I decided on Trinidad. It’s located off I-25, about halfway between Santa Fe and Denver. If you’re considering a stay, my full Holiday Inn Trinidad review will show you why this hotel is the perfect choice.
The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Trinidad offered everything I needed for a restful, convenient break.
Moreover, it’s a top contender if you’re searching for the best hotels in Trinidad Colorado with easy access to the highway and phenomenal views.
Checking In at Holiday Inn Express Trinidad: First Impressions
Check-in at the Holiday Inn Express Trinidad was smooth. The hotel is clean and modern. As an IHG Platinum member, I was greeted with special welcome gift bag containing water and snacks.

The front desk staff offered great recommendations for dinner and things to do around town. One of their top suggestions was a local Mexican restaurant called Tequila’s, located just a few hundred yards away.
When it comes to guest service, Holiday Inn Express proves why it stands out among the best hotels in Trinidad Colorado.
Holiday Inn Trinidad Review: The Room – Comfort, Cleanliness, and Extras
I booked a king room at the Holiday Inn Express Trinidad. It felt clean, modern, and offered plenty of space to spread out. As I walked in, I was immediately impressed by the room size and its excellent condition.

The décor felt updated and practical, featuring a comfortable king bed, a work desk, and a flat-screen TV.
Additionally, I appreciated the in-room amenities like a refrigerator, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker.

The bathroom was spotless, and the hotel offered strong water pressure in the shower. After a long day of driving, that small detail made a big difference.
As someone who prefers a firm mattress, I was thrilled to find the bed was just right. If you also enjoy a firm sleeping surface, you’ll feel right at home here.
Although I wasn’t traveling with a pet, I spotted a few guests with dogs around the hotel. The property is proudly pet-friendly and even features designated pet-friendly rooms—perfect for anyone road-tripping with furry companions.
Before heading out the next morning, I walked past the indoor pool and fitness center. Both looked clean and well-maintained.
Where to Eat Near Holiday Inn Express Trinidad: Tequila’s Mexican Restaurant
After settling in, I walked over to Tequila’s Mexican Restaurant for dinner. It was an easy stroll, just a few minutes from the hotel.
The restaurant had a casual, lively vibe that made it feel welcoming. Following the hotel staff’s recommendation, I ordered the carne asada enchiladas—and they were excellent.
The portion was generous (I couldn’t even finish it), and the carne asada was both flavorful and tender. The meal really hit the spot, and it’s always great when a local recommendation lives up to the hype.

Holiday Inn Trinidad Review: Breakfast
The breakfast buffet at the Holiday Inn Express Trinidad offered a variety of hot items like eggs, bacon, sausage, plus cereals, yogurt, and more.

The next morning, I headed down to the lobby breakfast area and was pleasantly surprised by the selection. I loaded my plate with scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, sausage links, and a slice of French toast.
In addition, there was a good mix of cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit, and breakfast potatoes—a full hot breakfast spread that went slightly beyond typical “continental” offerings.
They even had an automatic pancake machine, although it was out of service during my visit. Honestly, with so many other tasty options available, it wasn’t a big deal.

Before leaving, I grabbed a cup of coffee (available 24/7 in the lobby).
Solid breakfast options like these are another reason why the Holiday Inn ranks among the best hotels in Trinidad Colorado.
Holiday Inn Trinidad Review: Location and Nearby Attractions
One of the biggest reasons I chose this hotel was its perfect location. Being just off the interstate, the Holiday Inn Express Trinidad was easy to find.
Bonus: There’s a Walmart right across the highway for any last-minute travel supplies or snacks.
Even though I was mostly passing through, I made time for a quick trip to Trinidad Lake State Park, located just a few miles from the hotel. I arrived just in time to catch the sunset and let me tell you—it was absolutely worth it.
Trinidad Lake State Park offers peaceful walking trails and beautiful lake views set against the dramatic backdrop of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

The park felt quiet and serene in the evening, making it feel like a true hidden gem. I followed a short trail that led to a scenic overlook above the lake.
The sunset views were stunning—the sky lit up in shades of orange and pink, reflecting off the water.
Even though my visit was brief the scenic viewpoints made the park worth the stop. Overall, it was a great way to unwind after a long day on the road.
Final Thoughts: One of the Best Hotels in Trinidad Colorado for Road Trippers
After my night at the Holiday Inn Express Trinidad, I left feeling impressed and recharged.
This Holiday Inn Trinidad review highlights everything that made my stay enjoyable: a friendly welcome, a comfortable room, good food (both at breakfast and nearby at Tequila’s), and a convenient location—easily making it one of the best hotels in Trinidad Colorado.
The hotel really shines with little extras—from the welcome gift bag for IHG members to the pet-friendly policy and even mountain views from west-facing rooms.
Even though the hotel sits right off I-25, the surroundings were peaceful at night.
I didn’t experience any highway noise at all from my room, which is a big plus for light sleepers.
Overall, I only stayed one night, but I could easily see myself returning the next time I drive through the area.

If you’re planning a trip along I-25 and want a comfortable, quiet place to rest—the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Trinidad easily stands out among the best hotels in Trinidad Colorado.
